A rivalry game between USW women’s 1st and Cardiff mets 2nd ended in a 1-0 victory to the away side.
Overall there was even possession between both teams in both halves. The 9th minute saw Cardiff met attack yet was defended strong by Lucia Carpanni which was later cleared away.
Kaci Whitcombe in the 12th minute hit the side netting then a few minutes later Whitcombe struck again but that time was straight to Wojtyzcska the met goalkeeper. Another break for USW in the 26th minute, Rhianne Oakley swung a lovely cross in yet there was no one in the box.
The best chance of the first half for USW was from Lucia Carpanni who chipped it just over the cross bar in the 40th minute. After the attack from USW, met took the ball straight up to the other end of the pitch and which looked like a cross from Emma Godman went straight over Chelsea Herbert’s head into the back of the net.
Second half saw the USW side coming out strong and attacking the leading met side. The 50th minute Cardiff met conceded a corner which lead to Rhianne Oakley missing the cross bar by inches
USW were the team which created most chance in the second half by having most shots on target, the best chance was a cross from Rhianne Oakley to Annabelle Davis which was headed over the bar. Unfortunately the USW team failed to get the goal that they needed which lead to the loss of their women’s trophy match.
When asked what her overall thoughts about the game, USW coach, Kath Morgan said “I thought we were exceptionally poor from start to finish. Cardiff met thoroughly deserved the victory.”
